Crawdad Slough Sketch

Tree at Crawdad - watercolor and micron pen

I didn’t have much time today so I made a quick stop at Crawdad Slough, just to find something to sketch from inside my car in the parking lot. It sure didn’t take long before my focus centered upon a tree full of character. I fell in love immediately.

I like the way it was leaning left and how the setting sun made the bark glow a deep orange. As I studied the tree, I noticed its tiny, crazy, chaotic twigs. Years ago, this would have intimidated me, causing me to not even try. This is exactly why, at some point, you must push yourself….grow….develop….and conquer what scares you.

No problem now, I did it!

In this world, we sometimes perceive things to be scary that are not at all scary. It prevents us from blooming and becoming who God created us to be.  With a little help and our own step forward, we can do it.

I am currently praying for wisdom. The one who possesses wisdom can make choices and decisions without regret and find their true calling. Here is an interesting quote about wisdom:
“She [wisdom] is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy are all who retain her.”  Ps 3:18

I need me some of that.

  1. Christine — You have the Gift of turning what does not appear to be extraordinary into the Extraordinary! This tree was just beautiful!!! As for Wisdom – you are knee deep in Grace and Wisdom and you are discovering it every day. Just keep doing what you’re doing. You are a magnificent influence for so many people because you have accepted God’s Invitation to be God’s Instrument of Peace through your paintings and your nature journaling. Thank you again for this website – and Thank You, God for Christine!!

  2. jwms1: You are very welcome!

Alanna: Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Remember, every good thing comes from God. I am no saint and have more faults than actually shows, I just don’t post them, ha ha ha. God is good to provide the grace and wisdom, but I am my own worst enemy and block His gifts through my own actions. He’s not giving up yet and neither will I. Thank you for your encouragement, you are a good friend.
    😉

  3. I can see why that tree caught your eye. Beautiful sketch and a great sentiment. We sometimes don’t experience all we want in life because of fears.

  4. We used to sing a song in Hebrew school…Now I know where it came from.
“It is a tree of life to them that hold fast to it,
And all her supporters are happy.”

Great capture of the light in this painting.
BTW, it’s been in the 70s here lately…Hang on–Spring is coming!

  5. Joan: Thanks so much! Yes, fear has stopped me from a lot before…but not any longer, because the F in fear stands for FALSE!!!! Take that fear! ha ha ha…getting carried away…..

Lana: Wonderful! Isn’t it funny how we never forget those somgs we sang as a kid and then out of no where it will pop up! Like it’s burried in our brains but never out of reach. What a wonderful memory, love the verse.
I’m trying to hold on for that warmer weather!!!!! Send some my way.
