Every January and December, I fall into a type of depression. It’s not deep, but it’s just enough to slow me down. Because this happens so regularly, I pretty much expect it. It probably has something to do with a lack of sunlight (I live in the northern hemisphere above the 37th parallel), but knowing what the problem is won’t fix it. Hiking in the winter helps, but my work/school schedule mostly doesn’t allow it, as of now.
So in March, when the temperature broke and the sun visited longer, I embraced this event with open arms. I raced to a nearby lake with sketchbook and watercolors….and oh yeah, a yummy homemade lunch.

Today was the first day I could feel the sun burn on my skin. Lovely! When I can, I try to remember to take my shoes off so that I can practice grounding on the earth. This helps calm me.
When I’m indoors, distractions compete for my attention. When I allow them to overtake me, like social media, I become sick. Sometimes this translates into headaches, sometimes a low mood. But when I’m outside feeling the sun, breathing the lake air, touching the ground, painting what the Creator made with my hands, I go into healing mode.
I hope you, too, can find this healing condition.
Happy Spring Friends!
Christine
