A late-night cold rain froze the ground. The morning did not bring any warmth, so the poor birds searched for food on the crunchy, ice-covered grass.
The sparrow didn’t seem to mind. It must have found something to eat after all of its efforts…
Scratch the ground – jump back.
Scratch the ground – jump back.
Scratch the ground – jump back.
Then a peck.
White-crowned sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys) stay in my area for winter. In a month or two, this bird will migrate to northern Canada or Alaska where it will breed.
Safe travels, my friend.
I always love your I-was-here sketches with the labels– they’re so pretty and unique!! 👏😊
Thank you so much!
