petal flakes in March – watercolor

Hard rain tapped on my window this morning. The sound can not be beaten. It is one of my all-time favorites. This sound is so coveted, that relaxing apps sell it for profit while millions seek it out. It helps you sleep, helps you think, helps you be. And this morning, it was free.

When I opened my curtains, this is what I saw…

It’s snowing.

No.

It’s petaling. Petalflakes.

The wind was blowing fiercely and the spring blossoms on the trees were torn off. It was only until I inspected the “flakes” on the ground, that I realized they were petals.

The tree I sketched is from my front yard. I’m not sure what type of tree it is, but I do know it’s not doing well. The previous owner cut one half, the part that was dead. I don’t expect the other half to last long, it has an incredible lean to the right and a split developing in the trunk.

Long after it is gone, I will remember the romantic carpet of petals it laid down on the ground this rainy, blustery day.
