Overcast, windy, rain.
A hawk cry rings out under the heavy damp air.
A red squirrel sits to peel the outer layer of a nut, unaffected by the rain.
An intruder approaches… another red squirrel. This invasion results in a quick chase around the tree and an angry fast flicker of the tail.
The intruder flees.
The steady hard rain wont deter the red squirrel nor will it deter me, the lover of nature in all weather, as I watch in wonder.

Rain. Beautiful rain.
Straight down it was…no meandering, no skewing, no divergence, no wind. Tapping on leaves in trees creates a sound as if hundreds are clapping. My spirit is clapping.
I try to hear splashes in the puddles but cannot. The clapping overtakes the moment and I get lost in the mystery of His design.
And a few more leaves change colors.

Did you ever hear someone groan when it started to rain?
“Oh MAN!” They might sigh, “Why does it have to rain? It messes up my day. I hate rain.”
Oh, but the beauty! So gentle, so rare…..if you look for it.
See past the sunless gray sky. See past the soggy ground. See past not having to escape the house without a coat. Look deeper and be amazed, for little blessings are in all places waiting to be uncovered.
The rain lasted for hours, but something magical happened. The raindrops held on to every branch on this paper birch and became illuminated with light from behind. Suddenly, the tree was adorned with stings of diamonds everywhere.
It stole my breath.
I bet it would have stolen yours as well had you witnessed this gift in person. Well, I’m happy to offer it here…to send you a sparkle of joy. But oh how cameras cannot do justice!
We are blessed with the sunset. We are blessed with the smallest of flowers, and yes, we too are blessed with the rain.
Enjoy the gifts.

Raindrops pummeling onto the concrete outside my window awakens me from a deep sleep. My eyes open, but I do not want to move. This time is to be treasured.
I will not let that voice which asks, “What time is it?”, steal this moment.
I will not let my cell phone sitting on the nightstand, rob the rain its due.
I will not let my wandering mind kidnap my attention.
As if an audience is clapping their hands in great excitement, a clamor of drops fight to be individually heard.
I hear you… some high, some low.
Some clank on my window.
Some trickle down the gutter.
Some slap patio furniture.
Can raindrop sound compete with raindrop brilliance?
The few remaining leave on the tree outside my window has illuminated in its soaked state. An autumnal glow against a dark sky holds my gaze.
Leaves quickly fall like bricks, carried by a steady stream.
The drencher causes commotion in the air which wafts a lovely aquatic aroma to my nose. I breath it in.
O, how blessed is this time to be treasured!

Against the blackened sky
The autumn leaves illuminate
Raindrops pelt, weighing heavy,
Until the struggle is no more…
A descending swirl – the last dance.
Getting swept up in the season last night, I made this sketch.
When my daughter came home she yelled, “I HATE THIS WEATHER!” Then slammed the door.
“Funny…” I said, “I love it so much I’m painting it right now!”
I have always loved inclement weather especially during my favorite season. There is something mesmerizing about autumn leaves against a dark sky, as if they were on fire. And the force of a storm….strenght…something to revere.
